Frequently asked questions
Why does a session last exactly N minutes?
One breathing cycle is 12 seconds (inhale 4 s, hold 1 s, exhale 6 s, hold 1 s), so one minute is exactly five cycles. A session always ends on a full cycle: you are never cut off mid-exhale.
Why is there no sound when my iPhone is on silent?
By default the app respects the silent switch, like other ambient audio: on silent you get haptics only. If you want the ambience to play anyway, turn on Settings → Play sound in silent mode. With that setting on, the app also pauses other audio during a session and hands playback back when the session ends.
I denied notification permission. How do I turn reminders on?
iOS and macOS only ask once. Open Settings → Notifications → Breathe on your device and allow notifications, then set your reminders in the app (up to three per day). Reminders are local notifications: they are scheduled on your device and we never see them.
Where is my data stored, and how do I delete it?
Everything — history, statistics, settings, reminders — is stored on your device only. Delete a single session by swiping it in History, or use Settings → Delete all history to erase everything. Uninstalling the app removes all of its data. See the Privacy Policy.
I stopped a session early and it is not in my history. Why?
An interrupted session is saved only if you completed at least 80 % of its planned cycles — four cycles out of five, for example. Below that it is not counted, so your statistics stay meaningful. The result screen tells you when a session was not saved.
The circle and the sound do not seem to match
That is by design: the ambience gets louder during the inhale and quieter during the exhale, so you can follow the rhythm by ear with your eyes closed. If motion bothers you, turn on Reduce Motion in the system accessibility settings — the app respects it.
Does the app work offline?
Yes, completely. There is no account, no sync and no network use at all.
Is Breathe a medical app?
No. Breathe is not a medical device and does not replace professional advice. See the Terms of Use. If you feel unwell during a session, stop and breathe normally.
Where can I see what changed in the latest version?
On the changelog page.
