Which Macs does it run on?

Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) on macOS 13 Ventura or later. Intel Macs are not supported: the game is built for Apple Silicon only.

How do I install it?

Open the downloaded DMG and drag Shadeburn Racer to Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings.

How do I play with a controller?

Connect an Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro or another controller macOS knows — before or during the game. RT and LT are throttle and brake, the left stick steers, A is nitro, B the handbrake, Y the camera, X the standings, View puts you back on the track, Start pauses. The on-screen hints switch to the controller's buttons as soon as you use it.

How do I play with friends?

On the same network: MULTIPLAYER → HOST GAME on one Mac; the others see the game in their MULTIPLAYER list. macOS asks once for access to the local network — allow it. Over the internet: through an online server set in SETTINGS, or by a game code, which needs UDP port 27455 open on the host's router (the game tries to open it itself).

Where are my settings and saves?

Settings are in ~/.shadowracer.cfg; saved tracks, garage upgrades, money and championship seasons in ~/.shadowracer.db. To start from scratch, quit the game and delete both files.

A track came out strange. How do I report it?

Every track is built from a seed number, shown under the track map on the QUICK RACE page. Send us that number with a line about what is wrong: the same seed builds the same track, so we can drive it and fix it.

The game runs slowly.

Tell us your Mac model and where it happens (location, weather, number of cars). Closing other heavy apps helps on Macs with 8 GB of memory.

Will there be a Windows or Linux version?

Maybe. It needs a new renderer, and we will decide by how many people ask. Follow the game on itch.io to hear when there is news.
